When NOLI was brought in to collaborate with PLATTE Architecture + Design on this Indian Hill residence, the home’s heavily wooded location provided the project’s greatest inspiration.
During detailed design sessions with PLATTE and the client, NOLI consulted on each element of the modern kitchen and open space remodel, cabinet by cabinet, finish by finish. Natural colors and materials were chosen to echo the mossy greens, warm grays, and woodland browns of the park-like setting just outside the home. The result is a kitchen and living room that invites the outside in, featuring an expansive wood and stone kitchen island, a plunge-pool style deep stone sink, and appliances arranged intentionally to harmonize the space. Seamless built-in cabinetry wraps around the oven to create an uninterrupted backdrop and provide additional storage.
Notably, the countertops and backsplash are of a richly textured porphyry stone. Often called imperial stone due to its rich purple tonal depths, porphyry was highly prized in antiquity for its distinct color, and is a modern design favorite for durability and visual impact.
With its tonal harmony, elegant lines, and serene visual balance, this open kitchen provides a view to nature that will surprise and delight homeowners and guests in every season.
